Leave it to the beauty geniuses in Japan to introduce the world to the latest beauty craze- deep scalp cleansing treatments. This ages old Japanese beauty secret is taking the world by storm, and for good reason – it’s incredible! Read on to find out more.
You may have thought very little about the health or hygiene of your scalp. Most people, unless they have terrible dandruff, don’t think too much about their scalp. But in Japan, the skin of the scalp gets just as much attention as the skin anywhere else on the body. The scalp cleaning is essentially a facial for your scalp and here’s how the treatment works, step by step.
Some of these steps may be slightly different depending on your unique scalp needs and may include hair loss treatments, more or fewer washings, etc.
Step 1: Get a Microscopic View of Your Scalp
First, to get an up close look at the condition of your scalp, your beauty professional is going to take microscopic photos of your scalp and show you just how truly dirty your scalp is and how much buildup you have in and around your follicles.
After your scalp is assessed you will be taken to the salon chair to begin your scalp pampering and cleaning session. Your cosmetologist is going to make sure you feel comfortable and cozy and then the first cleansing treatment begins.
Step 2: The Pre-Cleanse and Gentle Scalp Massage
You will be gently leaned back into a shampoo bowl and your scalp will get covered in an oil cleanser which is basically like a makeup remover for the scalp. It’s called a “pre-cleanse”. These scalp pre-cleansers are infused with invigorating plant extracts which help to increase blood flow to your roots and strengthen your hair.
This step is done along with a relaxing scalp massage as a gentle mist of warm water is bellowing around the shampoo bowl to start the opening of the pores on the scalp.
Next, rinse! It’s time to do another round of pre-cleanser.
Step 3: The Deep Scalp Cleaning and Scalp Massage
Let’s fast forward through another couple of rounds of pre-cleanser and move on to the actual main cleansing shampoo step. This deep shampoo step is performed multiple times along with a deep scalp massage and each and every follicle of hair is given a refreshing bath to declog, decludge, and deodorize.
By now in the process the scalp is thoroughly massaged and shampooed and it’s time for the steam bag.
Step 4: The Steam Bag
The steam bag is a bonnet with a steam attachment fixed to the side of the bonnet. The steam is infused for several minutes on the scalp and contained in the bag. This step helps your scalp pores to open and relax for a final rinse of all the gunk that was clogging them.
The next step is a nourishing and revitalizing scalp serum which conditions and moisturizes the scalp. This step is essential to bring clean moisture back to the scalp after all that deep cleansing.
Step 5: The Final Scalp Review (Back Under the Microscope Again)
The final step is a relook under the microscope at the scalp to show you just how squeaky clean and conditioned your scalp and hair follicles are.
